FEMCO’s WHL-55S places in the OUTSTANDING MACHINE TOOL competition at TIMTOS ‘03

FEMCO’s WHL-55S won second prize in the category of CNC Lathes in a competition at the Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) held in March of this year. 12 manufacturers competed in the CNC Lathes category, and 3 winners were chosen. The Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) sponsored the competition and chose the winners based on innovation and engineering ingenuity. The jurors were impressed with the overall design of the WHL-55S and awarded FEMCO with the second prize.

The WHL-55S’s innovative features are as follows:

• High Efficiency

  Thanks to a ‘Direct driven spindle’ and ‘No Hydraulic System’ design (patent pending), the spindle acceleration and slow down on the WHL-55S is more efficient than traditional designs. In addition, the turret indexing speed is twice as fast as any traditional turret because of a servo motor index and clamp and an innovative air-pressure system (patent pending).

• Safety

  The ‘Direct driven spindle’ design enables the chuck clamping / unclamping function to be secure during power failure.

• High Accuracy

  With the Nano Interpolation controller and the spindle direct driven system (no transmitting gear or belt), vibration is significantly reduced. This enables the machine to do fine and flash surface machining that can replace traditional polishing and electroplating engineering.

• Hydraulic system features Energy saving, Lower accuracy errors, and no maintenance

  The ‘No Hydraulic System’ design is energy saving, requires no maintenance, and also eliminates accuracy errors caused by high hydraulic temperature. In addition, because of another patent pending ‘Coolant Ring’ design, chips will not block the drainage of the machine.

• Chuck clamping detector require no adjustments

  The machine features a chuck clamping secured system that doesn’t require chuck clamping detector position adjustments.

• Economic Value

  Turret and spindle are modularly designed in order to replace the traditional hydraulic system. This simplified structure helps to reduce the quantity of spare parts and brings a higher return to our customers.

The WHL-55S is specifically designed as a Wheel Turning Center. The prototype debuted at TIMTOS ’03. The machine is still undergoing rigorous testing and is not yet for sale. We expect to begin official sale of the WHL-55S by 2004.
